時間的表達，1："for"和"since"

在研究論文裡，for與since很常使用在Introduction和Discussion中，這是因為這兩個字意指的時間少於在〝研究方法〞中實際所需的時間；再者，這兩個字通常表示較大塊的時間。

你可以根據你希望表達的期間與起始點來決定要使用for或since

"For the past five years"，"For more than a month"和"For two weeks"都表示一段時間；他們都表達該問題中的活動已進行多長時間。

"Since the publication of the paper by Watson and Crick"，"Since 2001"和"Since the Kyoto Protocol was signed"都指示特定的時間點；他們都表達該活動或事件在何時發生。

另外，since也用在肇因上，如Since the seasons in the northern hemisphere are the exact opposites of those in the southern hemisphere, it is best to avoid seasons to refer to a certain period of the year。這個用法經常使用在假設作者與讀者雙方或是講者與聽眾皆了解發生原因。
